Shih Tzu Having Heaving Episodes

Dog Question: I have a 2 yr old Shih-tzu. Several times she'll have heaving episodes and my first reaction is to kind of do the Heimlich Maneuver but I don't really know what's wrong with her.  Any suggestions??

Sorry to hear about your dog.

If it just started happening it could be sign that she is trying to either vomit something up or something could be stuck.

If she is eating okay and appears otherwise normal is could pass.

If it is something that is done on a regular basis then see a vet.

Heaving is a non specific sign, so I can't pinpoint it more. 

You could try to feel her stomach and neck and see if she is painful in those areas.

Could she have swallowed something?
