My shepard / chow mix ate some chicken bones
Dog Question: My shepard / chow mix weighs
about 85 lbs. and is 9 years old. About 5 days ago he ate some
chicken bones , for the next few days , I could tell he was
uncomfortable. Then he quit eating, and his butt got so sore
that he doesn't want to get up or walk. Is there anything
that I can give him to help dissolve , or soften up the bones
? Thank you very much !
Jerry
Hi Jerry,
Sorry to hear about your dog.
There is nothing you can give to help dissolve the bones,
but you can do somethings to help make passing the bones easier
though. If your dog was eating you could give him some
canned dog food and cooked rice or even some canned pumpkin
(not pumpkin mix)
But since your dog is not eating you should see a vet, as
one of the bones may be stuck. Dogs that eat bones should
see a vet if they have a mood change, are listless, or have not
eaten for several days.
Until you see a vet or your dog passes the bones it is
important to keep your dog well hydrated with lots of water or
chicken broth.
