My Chihuahua is sick and won't eat.  The vet told me to make sure he is drinking and try rice w/chicken, any advice?

Dog Question: My Chihuahua is sick and won't eat.
I called my vet & they told me to make sure he is drinking & to try rice w/chicken.  He will drink some but won't eat anything yet. He has been sick for two days.  Any advise?

Sorry to hear about your dog.  If a dog does not eat for over two days it needs to see a vet.

It sounds like your dog is not showing any specific signs of sickness other than not eating or drinking so it is hard to narrow down the possible causes.

You might have tried this, but to make the food more appetizing, try to warm it up.  Sometimes the smell with get their appetite going.  Or go to the pet store and buy some gravy for dogs and put it over the food to see if he will lick it.

The most important thing is to keep the dog hydrated.

Try to palpate your dog's abdomen to see if he is painful anywhere and try to look into his mouth if he lets you just to see if you can see a problem.
