I have had 2 cats for almost 5 years now and all the sudden they started to fight?

Cat Question: I have had 2 cats for almost 5 years now and all the sudden my younger (4) cat has been lashing out on my older one (6) for no reason.  last night i came home to a rough fight and my older cats lip was bleeding from a scratch.  my older cat is in hiding right now and is not alowed out of my bedroom?  this happens about every 3 or so months??  they are both fixed so i have no clue why he would be acting out?  i took the younger one to the vet and all she told me is that his ears were dirty and gave me some solution to put in them.  i cant afford another 250 dollar vet visit for some saline solution again.  please help....Thank you!

Hi Jillian,

Cats do fight every once in a while, I think for dominance.  If it happens every 3 months I don't think that is more than normal.

I think one thing to do to help prevent this in the future is to have lots of hiding places around your house for your cat to escape to.  Some people's houses don't have enough places for a cat to get away from an aggressive cat.

But if the older one wants to fight I don't think there is anything to do about it.

Keeping your cat's claws trimmed short should help prevent future scratches.

As for dirty ears, you can find ear cleaning solutions at any petstore.
