Cat Question: i first started noticing my can cleaning himself in his groin area more than usual and maybe 2 days later the base of his tail and up about 5 inches is bald and has red raw spots that he continues to chew and lick.

I would take your cat to the vet.  It sounds like it could have mites, which is one possibility.

If you think your cat might have gotten into something you could give it a bath, but take it to the vet first to rule out something contagious.

In the meantime don't let other animals near your cat until the vet can determine the exact cause.
