American Bulldog Puppy With Splayed Feet

Dog Question: I have a 7 week old American Bulldog puppy that has been diagnosed with splayed front feet. The breeder had the pup on a cage floor, and was feeding the pup a cheap puppy food that he supplimented with vitamins. I have switched the pup to Iams puppy food.  First- Is there anything I can do to help fix this problem?  Second- How will this effect the pup in the future if it doesn't get any better?  Third- will he be able to go for a walk or will it be too painful for him?  He is walking fine now, but will that change as he matures?

Hi William,

Sorry to hear about your puppy.  Since it is such a young puppy the problem could correct itself some.

Otherwise I don't think it will be a problem for the future because dogs are pretty good at making do with what they have.  There are lots of three legged dogs and dogs with worse paws that get around fine.

American bulldogs can get quite large, so keep him lean.  If he gets too fat as an adult it could be a problem, but I doubt it.
