8-10 wk old puppy diarrhea after diet change

Dog Question: i have a puppy thats about 8-10 weeks old. he started having diarrhea that lasted several days. i changed his food from puppy chow to natures receipe. i had only fed it to him twice when he threw it up. he doesnt appear sick in any other way(he only threw up the once and he continued to play). hes just as active and playful as any other puppy. plenty of energy. but i also know that dirrhea/vomiting in such a small animal could be harmful to him. is there something i can do for him here at home or should i take him into a vet?

Hi Sally,

When changing diets do it very slowly.  Mix the two foods together for a week or two.

If the vomiting and diarrhea continue it is important to make sure the puppy stays hydrated.  Dehydration is deadly in puppies.

Ofter lots of water or even some gravy, anything to keep him hydrated.

If it continues you should see a vet.

Parvo virus can cause similar symptoms in a puppy but they would also appear to be sick.  If you puppy appears lethargic also see a vet.
