10 year old male pug started urinating in the house on
a frequent basis and he is also drinking a lot more water?
Dog Question: I have a 10 year old male pug who has recently
started urinating in the house on a frequent basis and he is
also drinking a lot more water than normal. He has never
done this before and I am concerned that something is
wrong. He also is dry coughing a lot more and acts like
something is stuck in his throat but never coughs anything up.
Can you tell me what might be happening?
Hi Tom,
Sorry to hear about your dog.
Pugs, because of the way they are bred often have problems
with their tracheas which can cause coughing like you are
seeing. It goes get worse with age.
As for the urinating and drinking, it could be a kidney
problem, hormonal problem, etc. There are many causes of
this. But this is a reason you need to take your dog to
the vet.
Something is causing him to urinate more, so he drinks more
to stay hydrated. (polyuria/polydyspia)
Before go to the vet try to measure how much your dog drinks
in a day, and how often he urinates.
This will give the vet more information to go on.
