10 Year Old Great Dane With Injured Leg
Dog Question: On a 10 yo Great Dane, she has somehow injured
the small back part (not the front bone) of her leg that is
between the stile and the hock. She has been
limping and I was feeling around. One is very loose while
the other is very taught. I placed an ace bandage on it
and she seems to do better with it. What medical
treatment is there for an injury in this area? Do you
have an literature or links to information on these injuries so
I can learn more for my dogs sake? Thank you for your
time.
Hi Janice,
You could give him aspirin to help with the pain.
Great Danes often get a condition known as
panosteitis. It is a temporary inflammation of the bone
and joints.
I can't tell you a good website but you should be able to
find a lot of information on line about it.
If it is a ligament or tendon damage then nothing but rest
will help. Restricting his activity should help.
If it does not resolve you need to see a vet.
